Dr. Deng invited Dr. Zin Khaing to give a seminar talk in Stark Neurosciences Research Institute

Dr. Zin Z. Khaing works in the field of spinal cord injury (SCI) research, with a focus on hemodynamic regulation, neuroprotection, and biomarker development. She has made significant contributions to understanding how vascular instability exacerbates secondary injury and long-term functional deficits following SCI. Her work has included the use of contrast-enhanced ultrasound imaging to study in vivo hemodynamic changes in the spinal cord, revealing how aging increases vascular resistance, reduces blood volume, and impairs functional hyperemia, making the spinal cord more vulnerable to injury. Dr. Khaing has also mapped the progression of hemodynamic disruption post-SCI, linking hematoma expansion and hypoperfusion to progressive ischemic damage.

Dr. Khaing shared these insights during a seminar talk at Stark.
